North Harrow Waltonians Angling Society

Pete’s Pond

River Membership includes access to “Pete’s Pond” (in addition to our stretch of the River Colne, access to Blenheim Angling Society’s stretch of the Grand Union Canal). This is a new facility opened in 2019 and created from our original stock ponds.

We have been taken aback by the success of Pete’s Pond as a fishery that children and adults enjoy.  It was clearly popular at the Rickmansworth Canal Festival with many enquiries.  We have 2 qualified coaches on the committee and they are keen to promote the pond too.  There will be further events held on it.

It was intended as a family friendly fishery where a river or full member could go for a couple of hours with their children or grandchildren and let them enjoy the outdoor world, instead of TV and screens.  It worked exactly like that on opening day, with kids wanting to stay on until late to take in the atmosphere and soak up a quiet relaxed world they probably didn’t know existed.

River and full members can make use of the pond when they want and NHWAS members should consider it theirs to enjoy as a completely new facility.

The Pond been stocked with 100 Tench and 100 Crucians.  Two fish over 6lb have already come out.  On opening day 27/4/19,  there was a 4.5lbs taken.  Most kids fishing had a Tench.  We are waiting for a delivery of Rudd and will be putting further Roach and Rudd from Croxley Hall in too. The Pond is a unique fishery and it has a quiet, intimate atmosphere due to its size and mature location.   We encourage members to promote it and for us all to enjoy seeing smiling young faces there and potentially becoming the future of NHWAS and angling generally.

Below are some picures from Ewan Walker, June 2020, who managed to beat his own personal best several times in one evening finishing with a 5lb 4oz beauty, all on light balanced float gear – ‘proper’ tench fishing – well done Ewan!
